Java

Java is a programming language and runtime environment that was developed by Sun Microsystems, Inc. The Java programming language is object-oriented and software written in Java is platform independant. In order to run a Java application, the host system must have a Java Runtime Environment installed (JRE).

Developers can choose from a huge range of Java development tools. Sun provides Java Development Kits (JDKs) that provide a compiler, code and documentation. Advanced IDEs such as Eclipse and NetBeans are available which are designed for Java development.
